  2. Razor burn is caused by irritation to skin, usually from using a dull blade or a lack of lubrication. To prevent getting that irritating razor burn, here are a few helpful tips:
    - Start with a fresh razor. Disposable razors are usually good for about a week, while the more expensive ones can sometimes last about two. Once you feel that you aren't getting as close of a shave or shaving requires more pressure or strokes, it's time to get a replacement.
    - Use lubrication. We're not talking about actual 'lube' here, but use a shave cream or gel to keep the skin moisturized and the hair soft.
    - Shave in the direction of the hair growth. While it's not always as close of a shave as going against the hair growth, it results in less pull on the hair follicle and reduces inflammation and ingrown hairs.
    - Shave after your shower. The moisture in the air will open up the follicles, as well as make your skin softer and more hydrated.
    - Use aftershave or lotion with aloe or other moisturizers to prevent razor burn from occurring after you shave.

  3. Is it true that eating celery burns calories? If it is, what would happen if someone ate massive amounts of celery?

  4. I’ve heard the myth before: celery helps you lose weight because your body spends more calories digesting the celery than the celery contains itself. While there are many websites, articles, and even books out there claiming that celery is a negative calorie food, the fact is that there is no research to support that claim. What we do know is that an average stalk of celery generally has about 6 calories. While it does take the body energy to consume the high amounts of cellulose in celery, there is no proof that it results in a negative caloric exchange. According to Dr. Timothy S. Harlan, M.D. of Tulane University, “The body uses between 10 and 15% of the calories you consume for the total process of digestion. In someone consuming 1,500 calories per day that’s 225 calories in 24 hours. It takes the same 225 calories for digestion whether you eat 1,500 calories per day in celery or in bread. The difference is that you would have to eat 250 stalks of celery per day to eat 1,500 calories as opposed to about 15 slices of bread”. In order to lose just one pound of fat, you need to spend 3,500 calories. That would be a LOT of celery. While celery is a great food to eat to stay healthy- it unfortunately is not a miracle weight loss food. It is important to note that it can help with weight loss – by choosing to eat celery sticks over mozzarella sticks.

  5. I sometimes get a pricking pain in breast and when it happens bending or trying get up makes it hurt some more. What could it be?

  6. The pricking pain in your breast is most likely mastalgia (breast pain). There are two types – cyclic (pain caused by hormone changes, usually around menstruation) and noncyclic pain. It could be a number of things that are causing this sensation. Determining an answer depends on other factors (associated symptoms, timing, one breast or two, etc).
